This is what I needed to read immediately after making myself suffer through papers claiming to detect "AI deception" via inspection of their "chains of thought". Welp looks like I missed this reply... Besides not being manufactured or designed, an organism is alive. What in the world does "alive" mean? Well. If we just look at externally observable symptoms, we're talking about things such as reproduction, respiration, metabolism and all that stuff. Sure, you can then say "hey we can fake all that" but seriously what would be the point- Just to show somebody and point and giggle? Machines don't need to be alive.

What does an organism do that a machine cannot? Not specific organisms or machines but in general. What sets the two apart?
